Fengxian's Spring Festival celebration draws crowds and boosts economy

Fengxian district in Shanghai has celebrated the 2026 Spring Festival with over 100 exciting activities. From traditional performances in Liyao village to vibrant light displays on Qingxi Old Street, the district has created a lively atmosphere for locals and visitors alike.

During the holiday period, Fengxian's 15 scenic spots experienced a 71.8 percent year-on-year increase in visitors. Among these, four A-level attractions saw a remarkable 197.8 percent increase in attendance. The district's hotels also benefited, with average room occupancy rising by 12.8 percent compared with last year.

The retail and cinema sectors also saw strong growth. Fengxian's nine key shopping areas drew 1.7 million visitors, a 16.1 percent increase in foot traffic. Retail sales reached 140 million yuan ($20.41 million), up 6.3 percent. Local cinemas collectively earned 6.085 million yuan in box office sales, with strong performances at theaters like Longfor Shanghai Fengxian Paradise Walk and Baolong City Mall.
