Songjiang's intangible cultural heritage shines at Spring Festival event

At the Feb 9 Spring Festival event, Songjiang district's intangible cultural heritage (ICH) booth stood out among 16 districts in Shanghai, drawing attention with its diverse collection and exceptional craftsmanship, captivating international guests.

The booth featured workers dressed in Songjiang's traditional fabric garments, adding a vibrant touch to the event. Guests expressed admiration for Gu embroidery, a renowned national ICH, with one international visitor commenting, "This painting is exquisite!" Songjiang's staff member patiently explained the intricacies of Gu embroidery, which uses needle and thread to create detailed, artistic scenes.

Gu embroidery, originating from the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), is renowned for its delicate lines and light-shadow effects. Since 2006, it has been part of China's national ICH list. The exhibition featured three pieces from the Songjiang Gu Embroidery Institute, highlighting its artistic and cultural significance.

Another highlight was Songjiang's rice soda, a sweet, refreshing drink from Shihu Dang town, which was a hit among attendees. Several foreign influencers shared their experiences on social media, capturing the fun moments.

The booth also displayed a wide range of Songjiang crafts, including lacquerware, hand-stitched items, silk-screen prints, and products from local businesses. A staff member emphasized the cultural depth of Songjiang, aiming to share its story with the world.
