SKF opens Asia-Pacific HQ and R&D Center in Shanghai

Swedish bearing manufacturer SKF inaugurated its Asia-Pacific headquarters and R&D center in Anting, Jiading district, Shanghai, on Feb 4.

The facility, backed by an investment of over 200 million yuan ($28.98 million), integrates regional headquarters, sales, and R&D, creating a comprehensive value chain that serves over 20 countries, including China, Japan, South Korea, and Australia.

"This project is crucial for unlocking SKF's automotive business potential," said Miao Xiaopeng, SKF China's legal director. SKF Asia-Pacific CFO Wang Ke added that the center is expected to produce innovative, locally customized products.

The R&D center will focus on enhancing local and global collaboration, pioneering new energy vehicle innovations, merging technology with digitalization, and developing an industrial ecosystem to attract partners.

This development underscores SKF's commitment to the Chinese market and aligns with Jiading's ambition to become a world-class automotive hub. The project, signed in April 2025, was expedited by local government support, with business registration completed in just three days.

Yuan Ya, director of Anting town's economic development office, emphasized SKF's role in strengthening Anting's automotive supply chain, bringing high-level expertise and boosting competitiveness in automotive components.
