Shanghai's economy thrives with 5.4% GDP growth in 2025
In 2025, Shanghai's GDP rose by 5.4 percent to 5.67 trillion yuan ($814.08 billion), driven by a 6 percent growth in the service sector.
The industrial sector saw a 5 percent increase, with significant growth in transportation equipment manufacturing and strategic emerging industries.
Fixed asset investment grew by 4.6 percent, with industrial investment surging by 20 percent. Retail sales increased by 4.6 percent, boosted by online sales and demand for cultural and electronic goods.
Financial market transactions rose by 11.2 percent, while foreign trade grew by 5.6 percent, with exports of electric vehicles and solar batteries up by 17.4 percent.
The consumer price index increased slightly by 0.1 percent, and the per capita disposable income rose by 4.1 percent.
