Shanghai's Huangpu district reported robust growth in foreign trade and investment in 2025, according to the district's government work report. The data underscores the area's success in leveraging its role as a premier gateway for international business.
Progress was made in developing the Huaihai-Xintiandi zone into a demonstration zone for innovative import trade. The zone now hosts 25 Authorized Economic Operators (AEOs), streamlining smoother customs clearance. A dedicated "CIIE Express Lane" has been introduced, enabling bonded display transactions valued at over 1.03 million euros ($1.21 million).
The district's appeal to global capital remained strong, with five new regional headquarters of multinational corporations. Furthermore, existing foreign-invested enterprises made additional capital injections totaling more than $10 million.
In a major boost to its international financial stature, Huangpu welcomed the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Shanghai center to the Dongjiadu area. It also saw the Interbank Market Data Reporting Repository, a national-level financial infrastructure, officially set up operations on the Bund.
High-profile cultural and sporting events significantly fueled consumer spending. The debut of the global top-tier electronic music festival, Tomorrowland, in China generated over 700 million online impressions, with 16.6 percent of its audience coming from overseas. The first Huangpu Half Marathon also integrated event and commercial district resources to drive economic impact.
For 2026, Huangpu district will continue to optimize its business environment, focusing on enhancing multilingual services and facilitating cross-border cooperation.
