Traditional crafts illuminate Yangpu mall for Chinese New Year festivities

A lively event combining intangible cultural heritage with commerce started at a shopping center in Yangpu district, Shanghai, on Jan 24 in celebration of the upcoming Chinese New Year.

The event featured traditional crafts like quilling, paper lantern art, shadow puppetry, and velvet flowers, each symbolizing Chinese New Year themes like "Success" and "Good Fortune". These installations were scattered throughout the mall, offering shoppers a surprise cultural encounter.

International students were especially drawn to these crafts, capturing photos and sharing their experiences with family abroad. They expressed their enjoyment of the vibrant and enduring appeal of these traditional arts.
