Jiading a magnet for foreign investment

Jiading district in Shanghai has been attracting waves of foreign investment in recent years, with the contractual utilization of foreign capital approaching $8 billion during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), official statistics show.

Multinationals are showing strong confidence in Jiading by investing heavily and expanding their operations there. In 2025 alone, 93 foreign-funded companies launched projects in the district.

Valeo, a French automotive supplier and technology company that designs innovative solutions for smart mobility, opened a new manufacturing base in Jiading in August 2025, focusing on smart driving technologies. According to Valeo, Jiading's strong automotive industry and supply chain provide a solid foundation for its growth, providing it with a compelling reason to double down in the area.

Celebrating 30 years in China and 20 years in Jiading, German motion technology company Schaeffler has expanded its operations in the district with new projects focusing on hydrogen energy, AI and cutting-edge technologies.

Zhang Yilin, CEO for Greater China at Schaeffler, described Jiading as a hub for talent and innovation, offering a fertile ground for growth. He highlighted its advanced hydrogen energy ecosystem and the group's confidence in the local market, which led to the strategic decision to have its global hydrogen energy business development spearheaded by the Chinese team.

According to a local government official, Jiading offers comprehensive support to businesses, providing not just financial incentives but also efficient services and a problem-solving approach. This environment accelerates business growth and attracts more foreign investment.

Looking ahead, Jiading plans to continue improving its business climate to attract high-quality investment, ensuring a prosperous future for local and international companies.
