Beyond coffee: Putuo's new immersive space blends coffee and heritage

The Banma Suhe Cafe has opened in Shanghai's Putuo district along the shimmering Suzhou Creek. More than just a cafe, the space combines coffee culture with creative design, inviting visitors to explore the stories of Suzhou Creek in a relaxed setting.

Designed as both a compact cultural gallery and an urban garden, it offers a unique atmosphere. Guests can enjoy a refreshing cup of joe while browsing books, admiring industrial-inspired souvenirs, or simply sitting by the window watching the daylight change.

Unlike ordinary cafes, the venue emphasizes immersive, scene-based experiences. Each display and product connects to the Banma Suhe cultural theme, including notebooks embossed with riverside architecture and metal bookmarks inspired by area landmarks. The goal is to transform cultural symbols into tangible, participatory encounters, deepening emotional engagement with local heritage.
