On Dec 27, visitors to Shanghai experienced a fresh take on urban exploration with the launch of a new CityHike route in Xujiahui, one of the city's urban sub-centers.

With a guide providing useful commentary, the route exposed them to Xujiahui's unique blend of history and modernity. Known for its commercial buzz, the area is full of surprises given its eclectic mix of Gothic architecture, green spaces, and trendy landmarks.

The route runs from North Caoxi Road to Zhaojiabang Road and Tianyaoqiao Road, integrating steps, slopes, and elevated walkways for deeper engagement with the urban landscape.

Launched by the Xujiahui Origin tourist attraction, this CityHike route highlights Xujiahui's urban renewal, weaving commerce and culture together.

"I usually just shop in Xujiahui, but this hike showed me so many new details," said one young participant.

Starting at Zikawei Library, the tour heads to the Oriental Department Store, where classic and trendy retail collide. Guides provide insights into Shanghai's evolving commercial scene, enhancing the experience.

One of the highlights is the Xujiahui Skywalk, offering panoramic views of local landmarks. "You can see the whole story of Xujiahui from here," remarked one visitor.

"This route is incredibly rich; it lets you experience history and culture, modern trends, and nature all at once. And the two-hour hike didn't feel tiring at all," said an elderly visitor, giving a thumbs-up.

Xujiahui Origin plans to expand its offerings with seven more CityHike routes, including two running under the themes, Echoes of Heritage and City Vibes Walk, further showcasing the area's cultural allure.
