Amap's 2025 food insights report highlights Huangpu's dominance

Shanghai, a city renowned for its vibrant culinary scene, has once again captured the spotlight with Chinese travel and navigation app Amap's release of its 2025 food insights report.

The report transforms subjective dining experiences into quantifiable data, revealing not just where people eat in Shanghai, but how the city eats.

The report highlights Huangpu district as a culinary powerhouse, boasting 29 of the Top 100 restaurants in the city. This district, known for its historical and cultural significance, seamlessly blends traditional local eateries with Michelin-starred establishments and global dining brands.

Key areas such as People's Square, Xintiandi, East Nanjing Road, and the Bund create a dense network of dining options, ensuring that a Top 100 restaurant is always within a 15-minute walk.

Shanghai's reputation as a hub for international cuisine is further solidified, ranking first nationwide in the variety of global dining options. The city's openness has allowed international cuisines to evolve and integrate local flavors and habits, reinforcing Shanghai's status as a true international dining hub.

Coffee culture in Shanghai is thriving, with the city leading the nation in the number of coffee shops and daily navigation visits. Coffee has become an integral part of daily life, reflecting the city's balance between efficiency and leisure.

As the year-end festive season approaches, Huangpu district offers a global culinary journey without the need for airfare. Iconic spots like Schindler's Tankstelle, FuXing Bakery, and MQA Bistro & Bar provide diverse dining experiences, from authentic German cuisine to elegant desserts and lively bistro atmospheres, embodying Shanghai's unique blend of global and local food culture.
