New cultural landmark opens in Huangpu

Huangpu district in Shanghai welcomed the opening of Espace Gabrielle Chanel, a multidisciplinary space that merges art, design, and leisure.

This venue is a collaborative effort between the Power Station of Art (PSA) and luxury brand Chanel, located on the third floor of PSA.

One of the primary attractions is the expansive library, designed by renowned architect Kazuhiro Sakamoto.

Spanning 1,700 square meters, the library boasts a collection of 50,000 volumes, with 10,000 books and audiovisual materials accessible during its initial phase.

Its unique terraced design offers visitors a dynamic exploration of various fields, including art, design, and social sciences. Visitors can secure their visit by reserving a slot through PSA's WeChat mini-program or via email.

The venue also features a versatile 300-seat theater, poised to host a diverse array of cultural programs, from films to live performances. This theater can be integrated with nearby exhibition areas, enhancing the artistic experience.

Additionally, the Power Station of Design, established in 2016, continues to delve into the intersection of art, urban life, and consumer culture. Its ongoing "architecture and urbanism research series" has become a cornerstone for cultural and social discourse.

Completing the experience is a riverside platform offering panoramic views of the Huangpu River. This sunlit area, complemented by new coffee and family-friendly zones, provides a serene space for visitors to relax.
