Shanghai's Qingpu district reported its progress during the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period at a recent press conference, highlighting its dedication to becoming a new innovation hub in the Yangtze River Delta region.

Urban Transformation and Economic Growth

Qingpu's economy has seen remarkable growth with GDP rising to 182.5 billion yuan ($26.14 billion) in 2024, a 50 percent increase since the end of the previous five-year plan.

Its strategic location connects the vibrant Hongqiao area to the eastern part of the district with the expansive Yangtze River Delta to the west, enhancing its urban appeal and competitiveness.

The eastern area is developing into an international hub, hosting the permanent site for the China International Import Expo. Major companies like Midea and NetEase have established headquarters here, contributing to a leading cross-border e-commerce trade volume in Shanghai.

The western area is rapidly growing with major projects like Huawei's largest global R&D center and new high-speed rail connections. These developments are fostering more cross-regional collaboration and innovation.

Cultural and Environmental Excellence

Qingpu is celebrating its rich cultural heritage and environmental beauty. The district is home to major archaeological sites and has been recognized as Shanghai's first national ecological civilization demonstration area. Its water quality is outstanding, and efforts to enhance its natural landscapes remain robust and undimmed.
