China Mobile International in Indonesia: empowering growth through collaboration and innovation

China Mobile International Limited (CMI), a wholly-owned subsidiary of China Mobile, has been making significant advancements to provide better services to meet the growing demand in the international telecommunications market since its establishment in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, China in December 2010. As a world-leading telecommunications operator, China Mobile boasts the largest network, customer base, and revenue in the industry. By September 2024, CMI has 39 international business support points, with 305 global PoPs, achieving a total international transmission bandwidth exceeding 154T. CMI has deployed Global Data Center Network, consisting of core self-built data centers and cooperative data centers overseas, leveraging its global network coverage to provide "Global Network + Data Center" infrastructure and one-stop ICT solutions for its customers.

Enhancing Indonesia's digital infrastructure

CMI has actively expanded into Southeast Asia, recognizing Indonesia as a crucial market for growth. In 2017, CMI set up a representative office in Indonesia, followed by the establishment of its Indonesian subsidiary in February 2019. Located at Jakarta's central business district, CMI Indonesia subsidiary currently has a professional team of over 40 individuals. Dedicated to delivering high-quality services, including network connectivity, cloud solutions, IoT, ICT enterprise solutions, CMI Indonesia subsidiary aims to be the bridge between China and Indonesia. On one hand, CMI provides service to Chinese companies conducting business and investment in Indonesia; on the other hand, CMI, together with its powerful ecosystem and partners, bring the cutting-edge technologies to Indonesia market. Moreover, CMI is also actively involved in various digital projects, including the "Two Countries, Twin Parks" initiative between China and Indonesia, as well as SANY’s overseas Smart Lighthouse Factory. By leveraging new opportunities brought by the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), CMI is contributing to supporting the Belt and Road Initiative.

iConnect is one-stop-shop carrier solution launched by CMI for carrier customers, covering international voice, Roaming, Data, SMS, IoT and carrier ICT solutions. Over the past decade, CMI has become one of the major global telecoms wholesale carriers. Partnering with CMI helps carriers grow their telecoms business by enhancing their connection to the world. 

Targeting key industries and multinational companies, CMI launched iSolutions services to cater to enterprises across a wide range of industries. iSolutions provides various solutions including integration network, smart campuses, smart ports, smart warehouses, IoV and other scenarios. These solutions enable enterprises to expand globally, seamlessly and securely.  Based on abundant resource over the world, CMI's suite of enterprise solutions delivers both flexibility and agility in order to ensure the needs of companies in different scales, from small business to large multinational corporations, are effectively met.

Collaborating for regional digital prosperity

In addition to business development, CMI is committed to fostering collaboration and growth in Southeast Asia’s digital economy. In September 2023, the 2023 China Mobile Southeast Asia Regional Cooperation Conference was held in Jakarta, bringing together more than 300 attendees.  During the event, China Mobile, together with partners from Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Brunei and other countries, jointly issued the "Southeast Asian Digital Economy Development Cooperation Initiative". In addition, CMI signed strategic cooperation memorandums with China-ASEAN Information Port, PT Indosat Tbk and Maxis Malaysia to strengthen cooperation with partners in various fields.

Pioneering AI innovation through bilateral cooperation

During the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) in July 2024, China Mobile announced a groundbreaking partnership with Sinar Mas Group to establish a joint Artificial Intelligence (AI) laboratory. It will focus on innovative multinational corporate models, talent development, and production-research collaboration by leveraging China Mobile's "Jiutian" AI model and its core technologies. This partnership signifies a new chapter in the expanding technological collaboration between China and Indonesia, allowing both parties to benefit from shared expertise and innovation in the AI sector. Through this partnership, CMI will continue to contribute to Indonesia's digital transformation and drive local economic growth.

Social responsibility and community engagement

CMI is also actively fulfilling its corporate social responsibility by giving back to local communities. As a member of the China Chamber of Commerce in Indonesia, CMI Indonesia subsidiary participates in various initiatives organized by the Chinese Embassy and local chambers of commerce. The company has donated pandemic relief supplies to local communities, provided meals to local mosques, supported educational programs at local universities, and hired local university students.
