Banque Misr: to achieve sustainable development and prosperity

Banque Misr (BM) was established in 1920, becoming the first wholly Egyptian-owned bank. Banque Misr’s headquarters is located in Cairo, Egypt, and operates more than 800 local branches. Through its global presence, Banque Misr has established wide customer outreach and ensured customized service accessibility to its clients across three continents.

BM operates five branches in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), one in France (Paris), along with two subsidiaries in Germany (Frankfurt) and Lebanon. BM also operates a representative office in Abidjan (Côte d’Ivoire), which is run by its subsidiary in Lebanon, in addition to five representative offices in Russia (Moscow), China (Guangzhou), South Korea (Seoul), Italy (Milan), and Kenya (Nairobi). BM is currently carrying out its five-year expansion strategy in Africa and Asia, extending its branch network in Saudi Arabia (Riyadh), Djibouti (Djibouti), and Somalia (Mogadishu).

The trade and investment relationship of each country of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) with China is highly specific. Under the umbrella of the BRI, BM is already present in 6 countries involved in China's Belt and Road Initiative, while setting plans to expand its presence to three more countries in the near future, where it will support financial activity related to the BRI.

Banque Misr’s Guangzhou Representative Office was established and registered in 2017, with the aim of promoting non-transactional business activities and support bilateral trade between Egypt, China, and other countries in which the bank operates, along with seizing untapped investment opportunities. In addition, BM's Guangzhou Rep. Office is playing an incremental role in cooperating with various Chinese institutions and correspondent banks. Along with conducting mutual business activities, its role focuses on fostering relations and liaising on financial activities with state-owned and private banks, financial institutions, companies, organizations, and institutions.

Additionally, BM has been both locally and regionally recognized for its superior contribution to the Belt & Road Initiative in the Middle East and Africa in 2019 and 2020.
