Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) has collaborated with Shenghui Huanyu (Xi'an) Technology Co., Ltd. to create an intelligent management system for urban renewable resources, aiming to enhance resource utilization and promote green urban transformation.
Developed by XJTU’s Frontier Institute of Science and Technology, this system integrates intelligent sorting technologies with standardized recycling management. It achieves a renewable resource recovery rate of over 95%, positioning it as a leader both domestically and internationally. The system will be piloted in Xi'an communities to support the city's green initiatives.

The project addresses challenges in mixed waste identification and recycling efficiency by combining XJTU’s research capabilities with the company’s industrial expertise. Led by Professor He Gang and Associate Professor Li Guoping, the research team developed a comprehensive solution that includes community smart hardware terminals, a municipal-level management platform, and an AI algorithm platform. This dual intelligent framework significantly enhances waste identification and classification accuracy.
The initiative marks a strategic shift from single-technique research to practical, scenario-based applications, leveraging interdisciplinary collaboration. Gu Wei, chairman of Shenghui Huanyu, emphasized the importance of this partnership in advancing core technologies and accelerating the industrial application of environmental innovations.

Rooted in western China, XJTU aligns its research with national development needs, transforming laboratory technologies into practical community solutions. Future plans include expanding pilot trials in Xi'an, optimizing recycling technologies, and exploring sustainable models to support the construction of a zero-waste city, thereby fostering local green and low-carbon development.
