Students and faculty from Xidian University's School of Language Intelligence have completed a summer social practice campaign, utilizing their language skills to support grassroots development, cultural exchange, and industrial innovation.
This summer, 148 participants formed seven teams, conducting fieldwork across Shaanxi, Beijing, and Guangdong. Their efforts benefited over 1,000 residents and resulted in two investigative reports, a provincial policy advisory document, and five visual publicity works. Notably, one team was selected for a national youth practice program, and two projects received provincial approval. This initiative marks a shift for Xidian’s language majors from classroom learning to practical social engagement.

Tracing red heritage
In Yan’an, a team explored red culture and history, the foundational site for Xidian University. Graduate students reviewed "Red Star Over China" and visited revolutionary sites, gaining insights into the role of language in cultural inheritance and confidence.
Serving grassroots communities
Student volunteers extended their efforts across Shaanxi province. In Pucheng county, a Mandarin promotion team provided digital education, psychological support, and vocational training. They offered AI education training and personalized language rehabilitation for children with special needs. Additionally, they trained local farmers in e-commerce skills to enhance online sales.
In Qian county, volunteers collaborated with local police for anti-drug campaigns, reaching over 200 villagers through lectures and film screenings. In Xi’an’s Xinglong community, a free summer tutoring program was launched for 40 children, focusing on foreign language courses and safety education.
Deepening cross-cultural exchanges
The university partnered with Asbury University for a Sino-US youth cultural exchange, approved under the Ministry of Education’s Youth Exchange Scheme. Participants visited cultural landmarks in Xi’an and engaged in workshops on cross-cultural differences, enhancing their narrative abilities and understanding of Chinese civilization.

Integrating language and industry
Field visits to enterprises in Beijing and the Greater Bay Area exposed students to industry demands for interdisciplinary talents. They gained insights into China’s industrial transformation, with international students pledging to share authentic stories of China's development.
This comprehensive campaign has built a practical education system for language majors at Xidian University, enabling students to contribute to grassroots governance, cultural heritage, and social development.
