Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) welcomed over 6,700 new undergraduates for the 2026 academic year on August 27 and 28. The university has enhanced its orientation system with AI technology, introducing an upgraded intelligent agent, Jiaoxiaoxin, and a new AI counselor, Jiaoguoguo, to provide a personalized and supportive campus entry experience.

Jiaoxiaoxin serves as an online guide for new students, developed on XJTU’s AI platform. It handles text and voice inquiries, ensuring responses are based on official policies and verified information. Its expanded services include navigation for campus facilities, forming a smart system that integrates consultation, personalized recommendations, and real-time guidance.

Using a dynamic student profiling system, Jiaoxiaoxin offers precise, individualized services. It sends customized schedules, reminders, and navigation tips tailored to various enrollment stages. During orientation, Jiaoxiaoxin assisted nearly 6,000 freshmen with about 80,000 consultations, achieving a 95% response accuracy.

Complementing Jiaoxiaoxin, the AI counselor Jiaoguoguo provides immersive offline support. It guides freshmen through orientation education, campus adaptation, and long-term planning. Debuting at orientation, the Jiaoguoguo humanoid robot efficiently answers questions about registration and more while offering on-site navigation.

Beyond practical assistance, Jiaoguoguo brings warmth to the campus. It interacts with students through gestures, takes group photos, and enlivens the atmosphere with welcome messages and performances, helping ease freshmen's anxiety.

XJTU has streamlined its digital orientation by integrating all functions into its mobile app, allowing for seamless, paperless enrollment. This digital ecosystem supports students beyond orientation, accompanying them throughout their university journey.

In addition to tech-driven services, XJTU provides humanistic support, including pick-up services at local railway stations and assistance from campus volunteers. By blending innovation with care, XJTU’s AI-powered orientation transforms traditional enrollment into a comprehensive, intelligent service model, offering a smart and welcoming start for the 2026 freshmen.
