From July 18 to 28, 24 undergraduate students from Northwest A&F University, in collaboration with East China Normal University, Wuhan University of Technology, Sun Yat-sen University, and Chang'an University, participated in the "New Youth Global Competence Development Program (UNAI-A)" in Geneva and Vienna. This 11-day international study tour focused on cutting-edge topics such as global AI governance and green digital transformation. Through lectures, institutional visits, and simulated multilateral negotiations, students expanded their understanding of global governance and enhanced their cross-cultural communication and international affairs skills.

The program was guided by professional mentors from the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA). Experts from the World Health Organization and the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs shared insights on global issues like AI in public health, tech security, and space technology for disaster prevention. A special feature of the program was a simulated UN negotiation on AI governance, where students role-played as country representatives, debating and reporting on UN Sustainable Development Goals. Xie Jiatong, a student from Northwest A&F University, noted, "The simulations shifted my perspective from passive learning to active critical thinking about global development challenges."

During the tour, students visited numerous UN and international organizations, gaining firsthand insights into multilateral diplomacy. In Geneva, they explored the UN Palace of Nations, WHO Headquarters, ITU, and the University of Geneva, learning about UN procedures and global public health frameworks. At the WHO, Mayiyuan Ma, a plant protection student, shared his university’s research on plant-based pesticides, aligning agricultural research with global ecological and agricultural needs. The tour continued in Vienna, where students visited the UN City and the Europa Experience Center, comparing the functions of different UN locations and learning about regional integration.

The program also included a Geneva International Youth Exchange Seminar, where students engaged with UN interns and young diplomats to explore pathways into global governance. Cultural visits to historical and artistic landmarks enriched their cross-cultural experiences.

This initiative marks a significant step in Northwest A&F University's efforts to enhance international talent development and global competence among students. The university plans to further expand international exchange resources, guiding students to focus on global issues like food security, ecological protection, and green technology, fostering high-quality, globally-minded talents.
