The zero-carbon intelligent park funded by Hubei Changjiang Electric Co recently began running in the East Lake High-tech Development Zone (also known as Optics Valley of China, or OVC).

In the park, an array of blue photovoltaic panels are placed on the roof of houses, continuously transforming the solar energy into electricity. Energy storage devices charge during off-peak hours and discharge during peak hours. By using green energy combined with new energy storage, it is estimated that the park can save 2 million yuan ($282,000) in power bills annually.

The zero-carbon intelligent park is established based on the concept of carbon neutrality, which runs throughout its planning, construction, management and operation processes. Digitalized approaches are taken to save more energy, reduce carbon emissions, and achieve carbon sink and fixation functions, to strike a balance within the park between its carbon emissions and absorption.

Seventeen new energy charging piles have been put in place, and an eight-hour energy storage system using the all-iron flow battery has been created in the park. Through a dual-carbon smart energy platform that adopts the O2O (online-to-offline) model combining digital platforms with consulting and maintenance services, the energy consumption data was transmitted from terminals to the cloud to be further analyzed to achieve more effective power management.
