In the 2023 Optics Valley Marathon, a medical rescue station will be set up every 2.5 kilometers along the route, staffed with medical personnel from six tertiary Class-A hospitals.
The medical professionals specialize in critical care medicine, emergency medicine, cardiology, and other fields, and have extensive clinical and nursing experience, enabling them to provide efficient treatment within a limited time and in special settings. A medical monitoring checkpoint has been set up every 300 meters along the track, with medical personnel mainly from 12 community health service centers.
There are 48 emergency units and five designated hospitals set up for the event. Each emergency unit is equipped with one doctor, one nurse, one driver, one police officer, two stretcher bearers, and one ambulance, with a total of 100 reserved patient beds in designated hospitals.
At the 28.5-km mark of the full marathon route, there will be an emergency medical treatment center operated by Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University. The treatment center is equipped with a rescue helicopter, through which runners can be transported to the nearest hospital within 15 minutes.
In addition, there are 22 police motorbikes carrying 22 medical personnel. They are equipped with automated external defibrillators and surgical emergency kits. They will patrol within a designated 2-km course and will be able to reach and treat the injured as soon as possible and assist in transferring runners in need.
