Under the proposal of local entrepreneurs and other social groups, the administrative committee of the East Lake High-tech Development Zone (also known as the Optics Valley of China, or OVC) announced its new commemoration day – Optics Valley Entrepreneurs' Day, which falls on Dec 5.

The date is significant to not only entrepreneurs, but also the OVC administrative committee, since it was founded 34 years ago – on Dec 5, 1988.

After strenuous efforts of more than three decades, the OVC has become the largest optical fiber and optical cable R&D and manufacturing base and the biggest small and medium-sized display panel industrial base in the world. It is also China's largest optical device industrial base and laser industrial base, boasting 180,000 market entities and 120,000 enterprises.

The vitality of the market mainly comes from entrepreneurs. A large number of industry leading enterprises were founded in the OVC, including YOFC, CICT, and HGTECH. The valley has also successfully cultivated 14 State-level individual manufacturing industry champions, 95 national specialized and new little giant companies, 559 gazelle firms and more than 5,000 high-tech corporations recognized by the nation.
