Simon Haworth, a successful British entrepreneur who invested in Wuhan in 2012, was recently interviewed by CGTN, telling of his family's long-standing bond with China, which has lasted for six generations.
Simon's ancestors have been engaged in the silk business in China since 1874, and were among the first group of businesspeople to enjoy exchanges with China. The family's special bond with China has been strengthened over the decades.
Attracted by Wuhan's rapid development and massive potential, Simon, who was then looking for investment opportunities, decided to start a company in the city and work with the local government to introduce Britain's biological technologies to the Chinese market.
In regard to Simon's tremendous contributions to technological and cultural exchange between China and the United Kingdom, the Wuhan government granted him the Yellow Crane Friendship Award in 2015, and two years later, he received the Friendship Award from the Chinese government – the highest award given to foreign experts who have made outstanding contributions to China's modernization drive and reform and opening-up.
In a short video that illustrated how Simon's family members were involved in their businesses in China, a series of pictures that recorded his parent's visit to Wuhan in the 1960s were shown. Simon also appeared in the video, reading his grandmother's Wuhan diaries written in April 1963.
