The Optics Valley Inno Tour for African Young Talents was launched on Dec 13, as part of the 2021 China-Africa Innovation Cooperation Conference held on Dec 12 by the Hubei Provincial People's Government and the Ministry of Science and Technology.
A delegation consisting of 33 African exchange students from Huazhong University of Science and Technology was invited to the East Lake High-tech Development Zone (also known as Optics Valley of China, or OVC).
Students were deeply impressed by the flexible phone displays and hidden cameras invented by TCL China Star Optoelectronics Technology Co.
At the Wuhan Artificial Intelligence Computing Center, a student from Ghana was constantly taking pictures of all kinds of chips. He was particularly impressed by the Ascend 910, the most powerful artificial intelligence processor in the world and expressed gratitude for being given the opportunity to see the processor in person.
Optics Valley's landmark building – a calla lily-shaped building - involved a total investment of 531 million yuan ($82.84 million), and has become a globally influential example of green architecture. The Wuhan Institute of New Energy is based at the building and is committed to strategic research and industrial application of wind energy, solar energy, and other clean energy types.
Standing on the 16th floor of the building, an exchange student from Sierra Leone admired the fantastic panoramic view of OVC as she expressed her fondness of Wuhan due to its high-quality education and strategic geographical location.
