The Wuhan Biobank, a State-level human heredity database, was officially launched at the Biolake of East Lake High-tech Development Zone (also known as Optics Valley of China, or OVC) on Nov 23.
As an important deployment of Wuhan's 1-trillion-yuan ($156.58 billion) healthcare industry, the biobank was constructed by the Wuhan Institute of Biotechnology and Hubei Science and Technology Investment Group Co, and focuses on the high-quality storage and utilization of human genetic resources.
The biobank was designed to better safeguard people's health by conducting research on diseases related to aging, major epidemics, and typical neoplastic diseases, according to Professor Zhang Hongyu from the College of Informatics at Huahong Agricultural University.
By collecting and sharing useful genetic samples, the biobank is expected to become a real treasure trove for Wuhan's healthcare industrial cluster.
