Optics Valley scholarship won by Tsinghua University students

A raft of students from Beijing's Tsinghua University have been benefitting from scholarships awarded by East Lake High-tech Development Zone -- located in Wuhan, capital city of Central China's Hubei province -- to reward their excellent learning performances.
That's in the wake of an agreement signed between the Tsinghua University Education Foundation on Dec 27 last year and the zone, also known as Optics Valley of China, to set up the funding.
Since the China Optics Valley scholarship was established, a total of 100 students have been supported by the scholarship, according to recent local media reports.
This is the first year of the implementation of the China Optics Valley scholarship at Tsinghua University.
A total of 50 undergraduate students, eight postgraduate students and 42 doctoral students were funded. The students come from the various departments of Tsinghua University, covering its major professional fields. Each student has received a scholarship of 10,000 yuan ($1,532).
In recent years, Optics Valley has attracted a large number of excellent graduates from Tsinghua University, Peking University and other domestic and foreign first-class universities to come and innovate there and start businesses.
Some 49 graduates from Tsinghua University and 41 graduates from Peking University have joined the management committee of the zone.
Many graduates from Tsinghua University have become the backbone of Optics Valley's technological innovation.
Wuhan Enbass Technology Co Ltd, founded by Zhou Wei and other Tsinghua alumni, has become one of the leading innovators in the new-type display industry in China.
