Number of high-tech firms in Optics Valley reaches 3,100

Another 1,564 enterprises in the East Lake High-tech Development Zone have been identified as national high-tech enterprises, recently.
This means the zone -- also known as Optics Valley of China in Wuhan, capital city of Central China's Hubei province -- now has 3,100 such businesses.
Recently, the Torch High Technology Industry Development Center of the Ministry of Science and Technology published three batches of national high-tech enterprise identification lists -- and 4,888 of them were newly listed Hubei enterprises.
Of these, Optics Valley accounted for 31.2 percent of the total in the province and 49.5 percent were in Wuhan city.
In the current year, the number of Optics Valley enterprises applying to be recognized as national high-tech enterprises reached 1,750, up 50.8 percent year-on-year.
Of these, the number of newly identified enterprises is 1,180, a year-on-year increase of 114.2 percent and that of re-identified companies is 570, up 59.2 percent. These enterprises are mainly engaged in optoelectronics information, biomedicine, integrated circuits, digital economy and other strategic emerging industries.
The approved high-tech enterprises can enjoy such preferential policies as corporate income tax breaks at a reduced tax rate of 15 percent. Wuhan will also subsidize each high-tech enterprise approved for the first time with a grant of 200,000 yuan ($30,580) each.
In addition, the attainment of the qualification is also conducive to certification for other qualifications for enterprises, which can have a great positive effect in terms of getting additional financing, recruiting top staff members and brand certification, among other things.
