E-sports industry flourishes in Optics Valley
The biggest live broadcast game platform in China, Douyu, arranged a livestreaming telecast for game fans to catch the action at this year's League of Legends World Championship -- which took place in Shanghai -- through a big screen set up at a square in the East Lake High-tech Development Zone.
The zone, also known as Optics Valley of China, is located in Wuhan, capital city of Central China's Hubei province.
The event at Optics Valley on Oct 31 attracted a large number of enthusiasts. And it enabled more people who are unable to attend the actual competition site in Shanghai to feel an authentic onsite e-sports atmosphere.
At present, Wuhan is building a national digital economy innovation and development pilot area and is developing itself as a leading national digital economy city.
Over the past five years, the number of resident businesses operating in Optics Valley's digital economy has surged to more than 3,000, of which over 80 are the second headquarters of internet companies.
The zone has also formed a number of special ventures in such areas as live broadcasts, online education, entertainment, internet commerce, internet connected cars and network security.
As an active part of the digital economy, Wuhan's e-sports industry has developed rapidly. There are nearly 40 related enterprises, of which nearly 30 are in Optics Valley.
There are currently more than 1 million college students in Wuhan, making it well qualified to become a major city for e-sports.
