The opening ceremony for 2020 Wuhan Design Day was held on Nov 1 at the China Architectural Science and Technology Museum in East Lake High-tech Development Zone -- also known as Optics Valley -- in Wuhan, capital city of Central China's Hubei province.
Back in Nov 1, 2017, with the approval of UNESCO, Wuhan was officially selected as the "City of Design" for the UNESCO Creative Cities Network.
Two years later, the city designated Nov 1 of each year as Wuhan Design Day, aiming to share its development experiences with creative network cities.
At the opening ceremony, designs for the Huoshenshan Hospital and the Leishenshan Hospital were selected as the Wuhan Design Event of the Year and the chief designers of the two hospitals were chosen as Designer of the Year.
It is the most authoritative annual event in Wuhan's design industry. And many other important awards were also announced during the opening ceremony.
The proposed construction of 10 Wuhan City of Design Demonstration Parks and 100 Wuhan creative communities was an important planning chapter in the development of the metropolis.
On the same day, details on the first six Wuhan City of Design Demonstration Parks -- including the CSCES Science and Technology Industrial Park located in Optics Valley -- were unveiled.
According to local media reports, in addition to the opening ceremony for the design event on Nov 1, seven forums, 10 exhibitions and 26 various activities began on Oct 15 and will run to Nov 15.
All on-site exhibitions and activities can be visited free of charge.
