The construction of the new Hubei Science Museum projects located at East Lake High-tech Development Zone (Optics Valley of China) -- in Wuhan, capital city of Central China's Hubei province -- entered the final stage, according to local media reports on Oct 24.

The final stage is for the finishing work to the interior decor and completion of all the remaining construction work to be done by the end of December.

The new museum covers an area of 72,000 square meters, with four floors above the ground and a building height of 51.1 meters. After completion, it will be a modern science and technology museum integrating exhibit displays, public services, science education and science popularization experiments.

The museum has adopted a large suspension structure that is using more than 30,000 metric tons of steel. The maximum suspension length of the main truss is 45 meters, which is the second largest in China and second only to the landmark CCTV building in Beijing.

In the museum, there is a 43 meter-high funnel shaped theater, which can be accessed through a corridor. Midair, there is a 360 degrees circular walkway. After the construction is completed, people can stand on the walkway to watch movies. Circular curtains will be set up at the top, around and at the bottom of the cinema.

The theater will cover an area of about 2,000 sq m. It is the world's most advanced panoramic air theater. After completion, it will be the largest panoramic theater in the world.

In addition to the immersion panorama theater, there is a giant screen theater on the first floor of the museum.

Furthermore, besides the museum, there will also be a dome screen cinema. It will be in a spherical shell structure with the largest diameter of reinforced concrete in China. The diameter of the spherical shell will be 30 meters and the building height will be about 16.5 meters.
