The brilliance of Chinese arts and crafts comes from the diligent wisdom of countless skilled artisans. Its long history is the result of dedicated and continuous efforts passed down through generations. Each exquisite piece is a fusion of traditional heritage and the exceptional creativity of individual artists. The builders of this cultural treasure trove should be cherished and respected to revitalize arts and crafts and promote the spirit of craftsmanship.

The Party and the country hold the development of arts and crafts as greatly important and respect artisans. A significant token of this regard is that outstanding representatives receive the title of Chinese Master of Arts and Crafts.

Since 1979, when Yang Shihui and 32 other creators were first awarded the title of Craftsman, which was officially renamed Chinese Master of Arts and Crafts in the Interim Measures for Honorary Titles in the Arts and Crafts Industry issued in 1988, a total of eight groups comprising 640 artisans have received this honor.

Talented individuals emerge in every generation. In 2022, under the guidance of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the China National Light Industry Council selected the eighth group of 108 Chinese Masters of Arts and Crafts.

These newly recognized masters are active in their professional fields and serve as exemplary figures among contemporary Chinese artisans.

As new members of the "first echelon" of Chinese arts and crafts, they shoulder the responsibility of revitalizing the industry. It is hoped that they will uphold their mission and, with the principles of creative transformation and innovative development, create more masterpieces for the people in the new era and on the new journey.

Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and other factors, this exhibition features nearly 170 sets of works from 59 of the newly recognized 108 Chinese Masters of Arts and Crafts. The categories of works include jade carving, stone carving, ivory carving, shell carving, lacquerware, metal crafts, weaving and embroidery, ceramics, bamboo and wood crafts, Huizhou ink, glass, furniture and more.
