The Nordica Fertility Centre in Lagos recently hosted a roundtable that brought together physicians from local medical institutions to explore the future potential and clinical guidelines for Focused Ultrasound Ablation Surgery (FUAS) in Nigeria.
Since introducing Chongqing Haifu Medical Technology Co's innovative "Haifu Knife" technology in June 2021, the center has pioneered non-invasive treatments for gynecological conditions such as uterine fibroids and adenomyosis.
Over 1,000 Nigerian women have benefited from this new treatment option, which preserves the uterus and avoids the need for open surgery.
FUAS is a non-invasive procedure that avoids incisions, bleeding, radiation, and trauma, making it an effective complement to traditional surgical methods.
For common gynecological conditions, patients can undergo outpatient treatment, reducing hospital costs and overall expenses compared to conventional treatments.
Focused ultrasound waves on internal lesions generate temperatures over 60 C, causing irreversible coagulative necrosis of the targeted tissue through mechanical, thermal, and cavitation effects, completing the ablation in a single session while preserving the structure and function of normal tissues and organs.
Dr Abayomi Ajayi, head of the center, highlighted the unique advantages of high-intensity focused ultrasound technology: "It's as simple as lying on a bed for a two-hour treatment. After resting for another two hours at the clinic, you can go home."
Since developing China's first patented Haifu Knife focused ultrasound tumor treatment system in 1999, Haifu Medical has achieved original innovation in the field, exporting products to 36 countries and regions and treating over 380,000 tumor patients worldwide.
Haifu Medical plans to deepen its presence in Africa through localized clinical training, physician education, and comprehensive technological support, ensuring this non-invasive, bloodless, and fast-recovery Chinese solution benefits more patients across Africa.
