Liangjiang launches China's first testing agency for overseas auto parts

China's first bonded testing pilot for overseas automotive faulty parts has been launched at the Chongqing Guoyuan Port Comprehensive Bonded Zone in Liangjiang New Area.

This initiative, spearheaded by China Automotive Engineering Research Institute Co (CAERI), marks a significant step forward in domestic testing of faulty automotive components from abroad.

CAERI established this pilot to overcome restrictions on the import of used machinery, providing a compliant channel for returning faulty components for testing and facilitating deeper integration of China's automotive industry into global industrial and value chains.

The pilot covers 18 categories of core automotive components, including engines, transmissions, and windshield wiper motors. An operational system has been established, enabling faulty parts from overseas to enter the bonded zone via air freight, be recorded in the bonded zone ledger as per regulations, and be managed in accordance with the bonded testing directory.

All testing operations are completed in the bonded zone, after which the components can either be re-exported or disposed of by compliant environmental agencies, significantly reducing disposal costs for enterprises.

The first batch of tested components included windshield wiper motors, engine oil pumps, and cylinder heads, sourced from overseas markets such as Latin America, Southeast Asia, and Africa.

CAERI plans to expand testing categories and global service coverage, aiming to provide integrated services for cross-border transportation, domestic testing, and component reporting.

Plans are also underway to extend bonded repair services, further deepening collaboration with global automotive industry partners.
