China-aided rural water conservancy project completed in Togo

A ceremony celebrating the completion of the China-aided rural water conservancy project in Togo was held on Sept 18. Chinese Ambassador to Togo Wang Min and Sena Alipui, Togo’s minister delegate for water and sanitation, attended the event and delivered remarks.

Wang said that the 305 wells built with Chinese assistance had been completed and put into use over a period of 18 months, benefiting 170,000 people in more than 300 villages. She said that the project is a successful example of implementing the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, and a vivid illustration of China and Africa’s joint efforts to advance modernization.

Wang also said China will carry out more livelihood-centered projects to bring tangible benefits to local people.

Alipui expressed the Togolese government’s sincere gratitude toward China for helping its people improve drinking water safety and boost agricultural production.

He said that Togo will work to ensure follow-up operation and maintenance so that the wells can deliver sustained benefits.

At the ceremony, women and children cheered and performed songs and dances, expressing their gratitude to the Chinese side.
