GDI International Media Youth Training Program concludes in Beijing and Hainan

The Global Development Initiative (GDI) International Media Youth Training Program, designed and initiated by the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) and undertaken by the Global Development Promotion Center under the CIDCA, was successfully held in Beijing and Hainan province.

Thirty-four young international communication officials and media practitioners from 20 countries, including Angola, Brazil, Laos and Naoero, participated in the program.

The program, which is centered on the GDI, systematically introduced China's development philosophy, poverty alleviation achievements, green development pathways and international development cooperation. Two special events were convened during the program: a thematic dialogue marking the fifth anniversary of the GDI and a youth roundtable themed "Bridging Chinese and Global Perspectives, Mutual Learning for Common Development".

Trainees made field trips to the Tencent Carbon Neutrality Laboratory, the Hainan Free Trade Port, Maona village at the foot of Wuzhi Mountain and other sites, gaining first-hand experience of China's achievements in digital transformation, low-carbon and green development, opening-up and rural vitalization.

At the Sanya Base of China Media Group (CMG), participants learned how Chinese international media outlets produce and broadcast news, its cutting-edge digital media innovations and global communication layout. They also engaged in professional seminars with renowned CMG hosts and journalists on advancing international communication for the Global South countries.

Upon completing the 10-day program, participants reached an unanimous consensus that the GDI has served as a pragmatic and broad cooperation platform for the Global South countries to pursue common development and win-win cooperation.

They pledged to maintain the communication network established during the program after they return home and strengthen media coordination across the Global South countries, so as to document local development practices through authentic reporting and compelling storytelling.

They expressed commitment to telling comprehensive and authentic Chinese stories and shaping new narratives for the Global South countries, in order to contribute media wisdom and strength to advancing the implementation of the GDI and the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
