On July 15, Ambassador Gao Wenqi was invited to the Eastern Province of Rwanda to attend the inauguration ceremony of the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Clinic at Kibungo Hospital. The ceremony was attended by Dr. Jean Claude Munyemana, Director of Kibungo Hospital, Mapambano Nyiridandi Cyriaque, Vice Mayor of Ngoma District, all members of the 26th China Medical Team, and Counselor Gao Zhiqiang.

Ambassador Gao Wenqi noted that Kibungo Hospital, as an important medical facility built with Chinese assistance, has long been providing medical services to over 500,000 residents in the surrounding areas, serving as a vivid testament to China-Rwanda friendship. He stated that this TCM clinic is the second TCM facility established in Rwanda, following the TCM Center at Masaka Hospital, and will further meet the growing demand of the local population for traditional Chinese medicine. In the first half of 2026, the ChinaMedical Team handled 15,406 outpatient and emergency consultations and conducted 665 surgical procedures. Notably, TCM services accounted for 13,216 patient visits, exceeding the full-year figure of 10,048 Rwandan patients treated in 2025.China is ready to strengthen health cooperation with Rwanda, so that traditional medicine can better benefit the local people.

The Rwandan side expressed that the introduction of TCM offers new approaches to the country's healthcare system, and expressed its willingness to continue deepening cooperation with China for the benefit of the local communities.
After the ceremony, Ambassador Gao Wenqi visited the 26th China Medical Team at their Kibungo residence to extend his greetings.
