First batch of China-aided emergency humanitarian supplies arrives in Venezuela

The first batch of emergency humanitarian supplies provided by the Chinese government for earthquake relief arrived on July 6 at the Simon Bolivar International Airport in Maiquetia, a city near the Venezuelan capital of Caracas.

Venezuelan Minister of Foreign Affairs Yvan Gil and Chinese Ambassador to Venezuela Lan Hu attended the handover ceremony for the supplies.

Gil stated that the severe earthquakes on June 24 caused significant casualties and property damage in Caracas and the northern state of La Guaira. On behalf of the Venezuelan people, he expressed gratitude to the Chinese government and leaders for providing aid supplies, which will provide crucial support for current rescue and post-disaster recovery. He said the aid supplies will be promptly sent to the affected areas and the people in need.

Gil also highlighted that members of the Chinese community and Chinese enterprises in Venezuela extended a helping hand in the aftermath of the disaster, noting that their participation in relief efforts embodies the deep friendship between the people of China and Venezuela.

Stating that China and Venezuela have demonstrated mutual support and solidarity in the face of difficulties, Lan expressed his confidence that, under the leadership of the Venezuelan government and with the support of all sectors of society, the people in the disaster-stricken areas will overcome the impact of the earthquakes and rebuild their homes.

The supplies, weighing more than 80 metric tons, include generators, water purification vehicles, disinfection devices, solar lighting equipment, tents and blankets. They will be used to support emergency rescue and the resettlement of affected people in the disaster-hit areas.
