The 12th China Auditory Science Conference was held on April 16-17, 2026, focusing on cutting-edge research and advancements in auditory science and related fields. The event covered a wide range of topics, including genetic deafness, hair cell regeneration, central auditory regulation, tinnitus, and clinical audiology. Over 800 experts from universities, hospitals, and research institutions across China participated in the discussions on basic research, technological innovation, and clinical translation.
Organized by the Auditory, Speech, and Communication Research Subcommittee of the Biophysical Society of China, and hosted by Sichuan University’s West China Hospital and other institutions, the conference was chaired by Professor Chai Renjie from Southeast University. Professors Zhao Yu, Yuan Huijun, and Fan Jiangang served as executive chairs.
The conference featured a main venue and nine sub-forums, each focusing on specific topics such as genetic identification of deafness, hair cell regeneration, auditory transduction, and tinnitus mechanisms. A dedicated poster exchange area facilitated comprehensive academic exchanges, bridging basic research, translational medicine, and clinical applications. Additionally, a special session on the development of the journal Sensory Neuroscience was held to enhance academic dissemination and international collaboration.
The opening ceremony, hosted by Professor Fan Jiangang, included a welcome address by Professor Zhao Yu, who emphasized the conference's focus on key scientific issues in auditory science and clinical translation. Professor Yuan Huijun highlighted the importance of addressing major clinical needs and advancing research in deafness mechanisms and interventions. Academician Wei Yuquan praised the conference's role in driving clinical application and interdisciplinary innovation.
Throughout the sessions, experts presented on topics such as inner ear organ chips and targeted therapies, showcasing China's latest achievements in auditory science. The conference successfully fostered high-level academic exchanges and interdisciplinary integration, providing new impetus for the development of auditory science in China.
