Biophysical Society of China conferences in 2019 (2)

3. The International Conference on Frontier Sciences
Entrusted by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the BSC hosted the CAS International Conference on Frontier Sciences on Nov 6-7 last year, in a series of activities to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the CAS. Bai Chunli, president of CAS, as chairman of the conference, attended and addressed the opening ceremony.
More than 50 top international scientists, including Nobel laureate Ding Zhaozhong and president of the Russian Academy of Sciences Aleksandr Sergeyev and nine representatives from the Alliance of International Science Organizations, held a wide range of exchanges and discussions on the theme of "frontier science and a better life".
Also participating in the exchanges and discussions were over 1,000 scientists, engineers, scientific research managers and more than 1,000 students from the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences – with the participants combining with the development trend of international disciplines and the actual needs of science and technology.
4. Other conferences:
(1). The 2019 International symposium on membrane shaping and remodeling by proteins
The symposium was held by the BSC's Membrane Biology Academic Subgroup in conjunction with the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) in Huangshan, in East China's Anhui province, on April 11-14.
(2). A seminar on precision medicine for diabetes and other metabolic diseases was held in the city of Kunshan, in East China's Jiangsu province, on April 13-14. The conference was themed on recent research progress and application prospects for precision medicine in diabetes and other metabolic diseases. It attracted the participation of over 200 domestic and international experts, scholars, front-line medical workers and officials from Kunshan's medical and hygiene departments.
(3). 6th Annual Conference of the Chinese Society for Nanobiology and the Xiong'an Forum on Innovative Nanomedicine
The conference was held in the Xiong'an New Area of the city of Baoding in North China's Hebei province on April 24-28. Hosted by the Chinese Society for Nanobiology, a subgroup of the BSC, over 200 scholars from domestic and international universities and research institutions attended the conference and nearly 100 top academics were invited to report on the latest in nanomedicine research, technology and applications.
(4). Third Annual Conference of the Chinese Society for Metabolic Biology
Hosted by the Metabolic Biology Subgroup of the BSC, the conference was held in Shanghai General Hospital in Shanghai on May 9-12, 2019.
(5). International Symposium on Radiopharmaceutical Sciences, or ISRS
Held on May 26-31 in Beijing, the ISRS is the most authoritative academic conference in the field of international radiopharmaceuticals and is held in turn every two years in different countries. The conference was held for the first time in China by the ISRS. The chairman of the conference was professor Wang Fan, chairman of the Molecular Medical Imaging Academic Committee of the BSC
(6). The third National Biomagnetic Resonance Symposium
Held in Wuhan from May 29 to June 2, the symposium was organized by the Biomagnetic Resonance Academic Committee of the BSC, the Wuhan Institute of Physics and Mathematics under the CAS and a key laboratory on the analysis of biomagnetic resonance at the CAS. Themed on biomagnetic resonance and interdisciplinarity, the symposium aimed to promote the integration of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and other research methods.
(7). The 2nd clinical molecular diagnostics forum
Launched in the city of Chengdu on May 30, the forum was held by the BSC's Clinical Molecular Diagnosis Academic Subgroup and the Medical Genetics Committee of Sichuan Medical Association.
(8). The Sixth National Symposium of Cryo-EM and Structural Biology (NSCEM2019)
Held on June 16-19 in Beijing, the meeting was organized by the BSC's Cryo-electron Microscopy Academic Subgroup and Peking University, as well as the Cryo-electron Microscopy academic committee of the Chinese Electron Microscopy Society. The main topic of the symposium was the New Area for Cryo-electron Microscopy in China. Subtopics were the Analytic Method and Application of High-resolution Structures, the Dynamic Structure of Macromolecular Machines and Biological Research on Cell Organelle, Subcellular Fractions and In-situ Structures.
(9). The Seventh Sino-American Workshop on Biomedical Engineering and China Oversea Joint Workshop on Biomechanics.
Held on July 20-24 in Southwest China's municipality of Chongqing, the workshop was co-sponsored by the BSC's Academic Committee of Biological Mechanics and Biological Rheology, the Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics and the Biomechanics Committee of the Chinese Society of Biomedical Engineering.
(10). The 5th Chinese Hearing Research Conference
Jointly hosted by the Hearing, Language and Communications Branch of the BSC and Beijing Friendship Hospital Affiliated to Capital Medical University, the conference was held on Sept 20-22 in Beijing. Its aim was to promote the development of research and strengthen international communications and cooperation in the field of auditory neuroscience.
(11). The 13th International Conference on Biology and Synchrotron Radiation (BSR13)
The BSR13 was co-sponsored by the BSC and other four institutes on Sept 21-24 in Shanghai. The aim of the conference was to show, communicate and discuss the development of synchronous radiation, free-electron lasers and electron diffraction technologies and their applications in the frontier of biology.
(12). The 1st International Workshop on Ferroptosis and Diseases
Sponsored by the BSC's Biological Trace Elements Academic Subgroup and the Sichuan International Medical Exchange and Promotion Association, the workshop was held on Oct 14-16 in Chengdu. With "cells' ferroptosis and interdisciplinary integration" as its theme, this symposium jointly explored the frontier issues of scientific research in this field and helped disseminate the new mode of iron-dependent programmed cell death.
(13). The 1st Interdisciplinary Symposium on Bioinformatics and Infectious Diseases
Sponsored by the BSC's Academic Committee of Bioinformatics and Theoretical Biophysics and the Suzhou Institute of Systems Medicines under the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, the symposium was held on Oct 19-20 in the city of Suzhou in China's eastern coastal province of Jiangsu.
(14). The 2019 International Conference on Aging and Related Diseases
Hosted by the Chinese Society for Aging Cell Research of the Chinese Society for Cell Biology, the conference was held on Oct 25-27 in Hangzhou, capital city of East China's Zhejiang province. The conference focused on the characteristics of senescent cells, fate regulation, the genomic mechanisms of aging and longevity, hormones, obesity and cardiovascular diseases, the pathological mechanisms of neurodegenerative diseases, the research progress in metabolic, inflammatory and bone and joint degenerative diseases, telomere, DNA damage and related diseases -- and intervention strategies and the methods of aging-related diseases.
(15). The 2019 International Conference for Innovative Medicines
Assisted by the BSC's Academic Subgroup of Material Biology and Intelligent Diagnosis and Treatment Technology, the conference was held on Oct 30-Nov 1, in Hangzhou. By integrating international resources, the conference was aiming to promote innovative research and the industrial transformation of international nano-biomedicines. Activities such as medical-themed forums, academic exchanges and medical project negotiations, were held during the conference.
(16). The 2nd Forum on Obesity, Lipid Metabolism and Rare Metabolic Diseases, the 3rd Annual Conference for the Clinically Rare Metabolic Disease Academic Subgroup of the Biophysical Society of China
Hosted by the BSC's Clinically Rare Metabolic Disease Academic Subgroup, the forums were held on Nov 1-2 at the Jiangning campus of Nanjing Medical University in Nanjing.
The meeting had two parts -- the Nanjing medical metabolism frontier summit forum and the annual conference of the Clinically Rare Metabolic Disease Academic Subgroup of the BSC. The later focused on current research progress and academic exchanges in the frontiers of metabolism, non-alcoholic fatty livers, obesity, lipid metabolism, glucose metabolism and rare metabolic diseases.
(17). The 3rd Annual Conference of Chinese Society for Neurobiological Control of Metabolism
Sponsored by the BSC's Metabolic Biology Academic Subgroup, the conference was held on Nov 1-3 in Chongqing. The conference invited 10 senior experts, 15 foreign experts of Chinese origin and 13 senior scholars in the discipline to give presentations.
(18). The 384th China Young Scientist Forum
The forum for young scientists studying nano-biotechnology and nano-medicine was held in Kaifeng, in Henan province on Nov 2-3. Co-hosted by the BSC's Nanobiology Academic Committee and the China Association for Science and Technology, some 20 internationally esteemed scientists and experts were invited to present reports on their latest studies in the areas of nano-biotechnology and nano-medicine.
(19). The 2019 Senior Academic Forum of the Chinese Society for Nanobiology
The forum was sponsored by the BSC on Nov 8-11 in the city Guiyang, capital of China's Southwest Guizhou province. The conference reported on and discussed two topics: drug delivery and nanobiological effects and innovative nanobiomedicines. The event also focused on the subject of the Development Strategy of Nanobiology Discipline.
(20). The 1st International Symposium of Phase Separation and Phase Transition in Biological Systems
Sponsored by the BSC and held on Nov 14-17 in Hefei, the symposium attracted the participation of more than 350 experts and scholars from China, the United States, Germany, the Netherlands and other countries in the fields of biophase separation and phase transition, such as biology, physics, chemistry and materials.
(21). The 4th International Bio-Trace Elements Conference of China
The conference was also the annual meeting of BSC's Biological Trace Elements Academic Subgroup. It was held on Nov 29-Dec 1 in Hangzhou.
(22). The 1st conference on the human phenome in China
Sponsored by the BSC's Phenomics Academic Subgroup and other academic institutes in China, the conference was held on Dec 22-25 in Guangzhou, capital city of South China's Guangdong province. With its theme of "Promoting Phenotype Group Research and Decrypting Human Life Information", the conference focused on the latest research progress and development trends in the fields of phenotype precision measurements, phenotype group data analysis and clinical applications of the phenotype group -- and invited leading domestic experts and scholars to explore themes and present special reports.
(23). The first Korea Institute of Advanced Study (KIAS)-Beijing seminar on protein structures and functions
Sponsored by the KIAS and BSC's Molecular Biophysics Academic Subgroup, the seminar was held on July 3-5 in Seoul, capital of the South Korea. A number of outstanding scientists in the field of protein science from China and South Korea were invited to participate in the conference and give reports, including 10 experts from Beijing.
(24). The 8th Asia-Pacific NMR symposium
A slew of experts and scholars from the BSC's Biological Magnetic Resonance Academic Subgroup attended the symposium on July 3-6 in Singapore.
(25). The AsCA 2019 (2019 Conference of the Asian Crystallographic Association)
Held on Dec 17-21 in Singapore. Professor Su Xiaodong, president of the BSC's Monomolecular Biology Academic Subgroup, was elected as the new chairman of the AsCA.
