The English academic monthly Protein & Cell is jointly published by the BSC, Higher Education Press and the Beijing Institutes of Life Sciences, CAS. Launched in January 2010, the journal is distributed overseas by Springer. The editor-in-chief is Academician Rao Zihe. Protein & Cell mainly addresses the latest research achievements and development trends in bioscience and biomedicine, covering a wide range of topics in molecular, cell, modal organism, biotechnology, and basic and clinical medicine. The subjects of study in this international, comprehensive and learned publication include microorganisms, plants, animals and the human body.

Rooted in China while oriented toward the world, Protein& Cell is intended to provide an international platform and a green channel for Chinese scholars to present their latest findings in a timely and fair manner. The journal has also lived up to its principle of actively promoting the advancement of biophysics worldwide and the progress of human kind with integrity and fairness. Since its establishment, Protein & Cell has been committed to the non-profit nature of academic periodicals and Open Access (OA) publication, becoming an important window to display China’s accomplishments in life sciences and a significant contributor to science communication in China and the world.

Thanks to the full support of colleagues at home and abroad, after years of effort Protein & Cell has achieved distinctive characteristics and higher international visibility. In 2010 when the journal was launched, it was immediately accepted for indexing in Medline and indexed by the SCI database in 2012. According to the 2016 SCI Journal Citation Reports released this June, the journal has an impact factor of 5.374. This is a new starting point. At present, the journal is making steady progress in forging a world-class scholarly journal with high academic standards, strong readability and global influence.

2013-2016  Ranked high on the list of "Highest International Impact Academic Journals of China" compiled by the China Academic Journals (CD) Electronic Publishing House, the Tsinghua University Library and the International Academic Literature Evaluation Research Center of China.

2014-2016  Received funding in the "Project for Enhancing International Impact of China STM Journals" carried out by six national departments and institutes including the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST).  

2016 Named one of the “Outstanding STM Journals of Chinese Universities”.
