Xiaomi's Redmi Note 5 Pro finds overseas hotbed

Zhongguancun-based telecommunications giant Xiaomi Corp recently launched its new product, the Redmi Note 5 Pro, in India, setting a company sales record by selling out 300,000 units in three minutes.

As a market outside China where Xiaomi has tasted success, India is important to the company. It has helped return Xiaomi to the list of the top five global smartphone vendors.

The phone was displayed and noted as the best product at this year's Mobile World Congress (MWC 2018), the world's biggest mobile fair, which was held in Barcelona, Spain, from Feb 26 to March 1.

The Redmi Note 5 Pro comes with a new Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor, dual cameras at the back, an improved 20MP front camera, and face recognition.

The phone starts at a price of 13,999 rupees ($215) for the 4GB RAM option, while the 6GB RAM variant is priced at 16,999 rupees.

The Redmi Note 5 Pro has a new processor on board, new display, and a dual-rear camera; it also packs a Portrait mode for both selfies and the back camera.

The four-day event attracted 2,300 exhibitors showcasing their latest smartphones, tablets, artificial intelligence devices, autonomous drones and other smart gadgets. More than 100,000 people attended the show.

Themed "Create a better future", the event highlighted eight topics for future telecommunications development, including "the fourth industrial revolution", "future service suppliers", "digital consumption", and "artificial intelligence".
