Huangshan city – named Xin'an, Shezhou or Huizhou in ancient times – is administered by Anhui province.
In its 2026 Government Work Report, the city highlighted significant strides across various sectors, aligning with Anhui Province's broader high-quality development goals. The province's GDP reached 5.3 trillion yuan ($767 billion) in 2025, growing by 5.5 percent year-on-year, and Huangshan has contributed robustly to this momentum.
The industrial economy is rapidly catching up, with 67 new large-scale industrial enterprises added, bringing the total to a record 621. Huangshan High-tech Zone's industrial output value exceeded 10 billion yuan for the first time, an increase of 17 percent. The Huizhou Economic Development Zone and Xiuning Economic Development Zone were recognized as leading provincial development zones in terms of per-acre efficiency.
Efforts to establish an effective international meeting place have borne fruit, with the hosting of 76 foreign affairs events. Memoranda of friendly cooperation were signed with cities like Mezzano, Italy, bringing the total number of international friendly cities to 37. Tunxi International Airport was designated as a transit visa-free entry and exit port, adding 8 new or restored international routes, totaling 25 operational routes and serving 28 cities. The city welcomed 180,000 inbound tourists in 2024, a 170.7-percent increase.
Looking ahead to the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026–30), Huangshan has clarified its pivotal strategic objectives, which focus on demonstrating greater responsibility in making new breakthroughs and achieving new progress: the city will strive to build a technologically innovative resource hub, an emerging industry cluster, a highland for reform and opening-up, and a pilot zone for comprehensive green transformation of economic and social development, all with significant influence. It will also work to deeply integrate into the new development paradigm, advance high-quality development, and contribute to the comprehensive construction of a Beautiful Anhui.
