Yunnan University hosts international conference on environmental history studies

The International Seminar on Environmental History Studies, hosted by the Institute for Southwest China’s Environmental History at Yunnan University (YNU), took place at YNU on Sept 21.

The seminar marked the 10th anniversary of the institute’s founding. 

More than 80 scholars from nearly 40 universities and institutes, including the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the China Coast Guard, the Yunnan Academy of Social Sciences, and the Institute of Nationality Studies, attended the event and discussed the latest trends in environmental history studies. 

Li Jiancheng, deputy Party secretary of Yunnan University (YNU), and Lin Chaomin, former vice-president of YNU, addressed the opening ceremony. 

Zhou Qiong, director of the Institute for Southwest China’s Environmental History, delivered a report on the institute’s development over the past 10 years, and various scholars delivered keynote speeches on the latest findings in environmental history. 

Attendees also had the opportunity to visit Fuxian Lake to examine local efforts to protect the environment.
