Myanmar's consul general in Kunming visits Yunnan University

The officers of Consulate General of Myanmar in Kunming visited Yunnan University on Oct 27, at the invitation of vice principal Zhang Li. They held a meeting to discuss how to deepen and promote the science and education cooperation between the Yunnan University (YNU) and the Mandalay University of Myanmar (MU).

On behalf of the university, Zhang welcomed the delegation led by Consul General U Soe Paing and thanked them for the long-term support and promotion to the cooperation between the Yunnan University and the academic research institutions of Myanmar.

Zhang gave a brief review of the cooperating process between the two universities and explained the declaration and schedule of the ongoing project "Sino-Myanmar International Lab on Resource Utilization and Ecological Conservation". He said that the concern and assistance from consul general was expected.

U Soe Paing said that he was pleased to see the cooperation between the two universities get stronger and more diverse in the past two years. Especially under the China-ASEAN Science Technology Partnership Program and the Belt and Road Initiative, the two schools integrated superior resources in the disciplines of geology, geography, zoology, botany and chemistry, planned to build the international lab together, which is of great importance to the cooperation in different areas between the two universities or even the two countries, U Soe Paing added.   

He also said that the Consulate General of Myanmar in Kunming would, as always, support the two schools’ cooperation and submit a report on the international lab to the Foreign Ministry of Myanmar, rooting for its declaration. He wished the project a great success.

After the meeting, the officers visited the perennial rice laboratory, the geological sciences laboratory and the laboratory of International River and Ecological Security Institute.
