Zhou Xiaoji, vice-president of Shanxi University (SXU), participated in the launch ceremony of the Visiting Shanxi and Reading History event in Datong city in North China's Shanxi province on Aug 11.

As a top representative of the university, Zhou participated in an expert seminar during the event, evaluating and analyzing the paths taken in high-quality tourism development in Shanxi along with other experts and academics.

SXU officials said the Visiting Shanxi and Reading History event aimed to enhance the attractiveness, influence and competitiveness of Shanxi's tourism, as well as build an innovative carrier for growth into the lucrative international tourist markets.

Shanxi plans by 2023 to develop the event into a well-known tourism brands event in China. It wants it to become a sounding board for the protection and utilization of culture and cultural relics, as well as to enhance the popularity and reputation of the province's cultural tourism.
