Shanxi University (SXU) has once more proved successful in gaining provincial recognition for the quality and excellence of the dissertations of its students.

The university's 48 dissertations were rated among the 2019 list of excellent doctoral and master's degree dissertations in the province, according to an evaluation notice recently released by the Academic Degree Committee Office of the Shanxi Provincial Government.

Among them, 20 were doctoral dissertations and 28 masters' theses, accounting for 27 percent and 21 percent respectively of the total in the list of excellence for last year.

The selection scope was for dissertations from students who obtained doctorates and master's degrees between Sept 1, 2018 and Aug 31, 2019. Shanxi University recommended 23 doctoral dissertations and 45 master's dissertations for evaluation.

Initiated in 2001, the annual selection of excellent doctoral and master's degree dissertations in Shanxi has so far recognized 146 doctoral theses and 164 master's degree dissertations from Shanxi University.

SXU officials said the university would next move to further improve its incentives and long-term guarantee mechanisms for graduate education.

This would serve, they said, to further reform training to enhance the overall quality of graduate education.
