Updated: 2019-12-20

A training course on the commercialization of university scientific research achievements and technology transfers was held at Shanxi University on Dec 13, according to SXU officials.

The event was sponsored by the Shanxi Provincial Education Department and attended by more than 70 representatives from 10 universities in Shanxi province.

Officials said its aim was to promote the innovation-driven development strategy, further promote and standardize the transformation of scientific and technological achievements of colleges and universities – as well as support the transformation and upgrading of Shanxi province's resource-based economy.

The deputy director of the Shanxi Intellectual Property Bureau, Wu Xiaoqin, outlined to the course the province’s policies to support intellectual property rights, from the aspect of patent applications, patent awards and patent conversions.

Wu also revealed that Shanxi will grant 5,000 yuan and 20,000 yuan respectively for approved Chinese and international patents.

It will grant 1 million yuan for projects winning the national patent gold award and 100,000 yuan and 5,000 yuan for first and second patent prizes in Shanxi province, respectively.

In addition, researcher Zhang Fangtao explained the Regulations of Shanxi Province on Promoting the Transformation of Scientific and Technological Achievements, which was approved by the People's Congress of Shanxi Province on Nov 29, and will be implemented starting Jan 1, 2020.

Zhang also discussed the implementation of the regulation from the aspect of policy coordination, patent transformation, technology transformation standards, the certification of patents and industry-university-research cooperation.

He said the regulation will help Shanxi establish a good environment for the rule of law.

It will also open the way for the province's scientific and technological achievements to be transformed into real productivity -- and turn innovation achievements into tangible industrial activities, Zhang added.
