Updated: 2019-12-11

The 16th Seminar of China University Museums was successfully held at Shanxi University in North China’s Shanxi province on Dec 5-9, according to SXU officials.

The seminar centered on the topic of Professional Operation and Future Development of University Museums. It was attended by more than 200 representatives from 100 universities across China.

At an opening ceremony held on Dec 6, Huang Guitian, principal of Shanxi University, explained that the construction of university museums has a huge impact on the inheritance of culture and the development of universities.

Shanxi University is planning to build a modern museum that integrates the display of cultural relics, archaeological experiments and studies in early Chinese civilization. It is hoped that experts and scholars in the field of museums can put forward valuable suggestions for SXU’s museum construction.

Over a five-day period, the seminar saw scholars and experts deliver presentations on topics involving the construction, development and operation of university museums.

Among the presentations was one on the Chinese Museum in the New Era of Rapid Development. Others were Historical and Cultural Statements from a Contemporary Perspective, as well as Thinking about the Operation and Management of University Museums.

In addition, a groundbreaking ceremony for Shanxi University’s museum was held during the seminar.

The museum received donated historical documents and collections from Huo Huyong and the Shanxi Jiayi Culture Expo industry Design and Planning Institute.
