Updated: 2019-09-29

Professor Zhang Jing from Shanxi University was selected as a fellow of American Physical Society on Sept 18 -- in recognition of his contributions on continuous variable quantum information and quantum gas fields, university officials said.

Founded in 1899, the APS has more than 40,000 members worldwide and is one of the most prestigious physics societies in the world.

Its editorial and published academic journal, Physical Review Letters, is the most renowned and authoritative publication in the field of physics.

Each year, the APS selects no more than 0.5 percent of all its members who have contributed significant contributions to physics to be elevated to APS fellow.

Zhang Jing is currently director of the Institute of Optoelectronics at Shanxi University and director of the State Key Laboratory of Quantum Optics and Photonic Devices.

Zhang’s research focuses on continuous variable quantum information, ultra-cold atoms and laser technology.

Zhang has published more than 100 academic papers in international scientific journals.
