A Shanxi University team qualified for the final of the 2019 ASC Student Supercomputer Challenge after winning 10th place in the preliminary contest, according to a list released by the ASC19 Committee on March 12.

It's the fourth time that Shanxi University has taken part in the event since 2016. This year's team is made up of undergraduates from the School of Computer and Information Technology at Shanxi University, reaching a record high in the history of Shanxi University, and entering the final for the first time.

Launched in 2012, the ASC Student Supercomputer Challenge has become the world’s largest supercomputing hackathon and has attracted over 7,000 college and university students across the globe. It serves to challenge and inspire the next generation of high performance computing scientists and engineers to deliver innovative solutions.

A hackathon is a large-scale event, sometimes lasting several days, in which teams of programmers and software engineers take part in a collaborative computing challenge.

More than 300 teams from 200 colleges and universities around the world took part in the event this year.
