Updated: 2018-09-05

Wang Lisheng, inspector of the State Council Education Supervision Committee, delivered a report on the discipline evaluation and subject construction with the background of the educational reform at Shanxi University on Aug 31.

Wang is the former director of the Degree and Postgraduate Education Development Center of the Ministry of Education and head of the fourth round of the national university subject assessment team.

Wang explained the discipline assessment requirements from four aspects including the transformation of academic degree, the development history of subject evaluation, the reform and innovation and future vision of discipline appraisal.

He briefly analyzed the comparative advantages of disciplinary assessment and ranking of some universities at home and abroad, and pointed out that China's disciplinary assessment is based on the principle of “promoting and serving for the development of disciplines”.

He emphasized that subject evaluation must serve the "double first-class" construction, and respond to the overall requirements of the new national program.

The term "double first-class" referring to "world-class university" and "world-class discipline", were approved by China's deepening reform lead group in 2016 as a new impetus for the development of China's higher education sector.
